She is the daughter of Seth Ward Joplin, an engineer, and Dorothy Bonita East, a registrar at a business college. Janis Joplin was born with the full name of Janis Lyn Joplin on January 19, 1943. A second solo album, " Pearl", was released in January 1971, just over three months after her death. Sadly, she dies at 27 on Sunday evening on 4th October 1970 due to heroin overdoses. Some of her most popular songs include her cover versions of "Piece of My Heart", "Cry Baby", "Down on Me", "Ball and Chain", "Summertime", and her original song "Mercedes Benz", her final recording. She released two albums with the band before she embarked on her solo career with her own backing groups, first the Kozmic Blues Band and then the Full Tilt Boogie Band. Janis Joplin was an American singer and musician who rose to fame following an appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, where she was the lead singer of the then little-known San Francisco psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. ![]()
